Jude's Mountain Nursery
Up until the moment that we found out we were having a boy, I had not given any thought whatsoever as to what kind of nursery I wanted. That may shock some fellow momma’s out there who start daydreaming about the nursery the moment they find out they’re pregnant, but in hindsight, I’m really happy that I procrastinated. I genuinely don’t know how I would have decorated a girl’s nursery, especially since I’m not the biggest fan of pink or florals. But when we found out we were having a boy, I immediately had some solid ideas. I played around with a couple of more elaborate themes: Neverland & Mickey Mouse, but they both pigeon-holed me too much and it became evident pretty quickly that it would be way too challenging to pull pieces together to decorate for those.
After browsing Pinterest and taking my own likes and dislikes into consideration, I decided on a outdoorsey/woodsey/mountain themed room. The focal point being an accent wall with a mountain range painted onto it. I loved the idea of a neutral color scheme that pretty much anything would be able to match and that rustic, natural, clean vibe that would play in with the whites and woods.
We started with furniture and branched out from there as far as what to go off of style wise. We painted all of the walls gray except for the accent wall which we did a little later on. We played many games of Tetris with the furniture trying to see every possible position to find the right fit but nothing seemed to flow the right way. We decided to sit on it and wait until the accent wall was complete to do the final arrangement.
This is how we brainstorm around here.
We finally started on the accent wall and knocked it out one weekend mid March. Brian outlined the whole thing based off a picture we found on Pinterest that we liked and then I went in and helped clean it up. We ended up super happy with the results and I was so impressed and proud of Brian for free handing the outline! Didn’t know he had those creative juices in him 😂
After everything dried and we got it all cleaned up, we moved the furniture back in and I began nesting mode. Here is a final look at how everything came together while the room was still vacant 😜
We didn’t want to pour a bunch of money into a new recliner (why are they so freakin’ expensive??) so we repurposed an old Lazy Boy recliner we were handed down from Brian’s grandma. This thing is ridiculously comfy. The only hang up? THE COLOR. Oh my. If you scroll back up to that picture of me painting mountains, you can see the back of it. It’s kind of a mauvey orangey wine red? Not even sure how to describe it. Brian found a grey slip cover on Amazon and it ended up working out perfectly. Plus, it was nice to use something we already had that needed a new space anyway.
The whole furniture set we found at Buy Buy Baby on a Black Friday sale. The rug I found online at Target.
I always had a vision that I wanted small shelving going down a wall to hold books with a couple installed low enough that Jude could reach when he started walking. These Ikea shelves were super affordable and worked perfectly for what I needed them for.
Most of the little decorative details like this mountain hanging shelf came from the shower my sister-in-law was going to throw for me. When she asked me for a theme I told her to match the theme of our nursery so that I could use the shower decor to decorate the nursery. That’s where most of the little animals came from too! The wooden bear on the top shelf actually used to be in my bedroom when I was little.
This chair was made by one of the sweet ladies (and family friend) from our former church. She hand painted the whole thing based on the theme of our nursery. We love this chair so much and it’s such a meaningful piece in Jude’s room!
We sent all of these photos to my family once we got everything done and my grandma told me after we had Jude that she knew his name would be something Beatles related because she noticed this picture that she got me for Christmas one year 😜 good eye grandma!
Even though we strayed away from a Disney themed nursery, I still wanted to add a little subtle touch somewhere (because it’s me, duh). I had these pages saved from an old Thomas Kinkade calendar and thought these were so gorgeous and tied in so nicely to the woodsy/mountain theme of the room. Bambi and the gang are subtle but if you know, you know! Now every time I change Jude’s diaper he has to stand up afterwards and point to Bambi, Bambi’s friends and the Prince of the Forest on the other side 😭🥺 I mean, I think I have now really just excelled as a parent!
I had been scouring the internet for a lamp with a stand that resembled a tree or branches. I found some one Amazon but they were way out of my price range. Brian stumbled upon one that was available at Home Depot at a super affordable price with the perfect color lamp shade! It was meant to be!
Since finding more storage is always a priority for us, we decided to remove the door on Jude’s closet and Brian installed some shelving in the bottom which I LOVE. Nowadays we use it for extra toy storage and bins for toys. It’s great because it keeps things organized but Jude can still access everything when he’s playing independently.
Right before Jude’s arrival I decided to take some announcement pics in his new room and I’m so happy I did, especially the pregnant belly one 🥰 It brings back memories of how giddy and excited I was to meet his sweet little self!
